My King Trumps Any President!

By Jenny Pfister

Well, it’s election time. Never have we been more divided, angry, and frustrated. As a nation, we are on a precipice with our literal future lying in the balance. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican, conservative or liberal, interested observer or an uninterested bystander, what happens in next week’s election will affect the rest of your life. Whew! That can be a bit overwhelming, except . . .  we have a King!

The three great kings of the Old Testament are Saul, David, and Solomon. Originally though, God did not want to give His people a king, as only He was to be their King. But the people cried out for an earthly king (just like the other nations around them had), so God gave them what they asked for. (See WORD WISDOM for a deeper study of asked)

But history shows that each king was found to be weak in certain areas and gave in to adultery, pride, selfishness, and a host of other sins like jealousy, murder, and bloodshed. Yet the concept of kings and kingdoms is deeply rooted in the Hebrew tradition . . . and ours!

But this is what I want to declare today in the midst of this unprecedented election: we have a King who is above every other ruler in this world. We have a King who rules over every other ruler in this world. We have a King who reigns supreme above every other ruler in this world!

Jesus Christ is the ruler over all kings and presidents, chiefs and premiers, governors and prime ministers! They may ask, “How can You have rulership over me when I was put into this office?” Jesus boldly declares from His throne, “I have been given the rulership over you by the virtue of my resurrection from the dead, and my installation as King at God’s right hand!”

When Jesus rose from the dead, God exalted Him and gave Him the power and authority over all creation, and that includes all the rulers and kings of this earth.

This is an astonishing thought. It is something that most people today don’t even think about or acknowledge. But the highest truth declares that Jesus is alive and reigning over not only the kings of the earth, but all the affairs and events of the earth. The reign of Christ means that He alone controls who becomes king and who doesn’t.

The reign of Christ over the kings of this earth means that He will triumph because He is ordering the world for the good of His saving purposes and for His people . . . and that includes you and me! So be encouraged and be strengthened and be hopeful and bold. No matter who our president is, Jesus is our King!
